The Bank of Las Vegas' History

The Las Vegas Savings Bank was founded as a commercial bank on December 5th 1890. It was previously a branch of San Miguel National Bank and was a savings bank only. Present at the first meeting were Henry Goke, W.L. Rosenthal, Frank Springer, Emanuel Rosenwald, Harry W. Kelly, E.V. Long, Wm. Eads and D.T. Hoskins.
The new bank was incorporated with only $30,000 in capital, divided into 3000 shares of stock at $10.00 per share. The first loans of the new bank amounted to $9,988.30 and were purchase from the original mother bank, San Miguel National Bank.

At first, the new bank was located in a small ofiice in the Crockett Building on Sixth Street, only one block east of its current location. From 1923 to 1925, five of the six banks in Las Vegas closed; the only exception being The Las Vegas Savings Bank. In 1926 the bank moved from its small quarters on Sixth Street to a spacious building at 622 Douglas, the original home of the First National Bank in Las Vegas.

In 1965, in order to identify the bank as a full service commercial bank, the name changed to The Bank of Las Vegas. In 1981 the Directors purchased the building next door at 624 Douglas Avenue, and a huge expansion and remodeling project was initiated. In 1983 the new quarters were opened to the public to display a thoroughly modern bank.

The Bank of Las Vegas is now 116 years old and has become a pillar of strength in the community. We invite you to bank with us, and you will know why we are Las Vegas' premier financial institution.
